Woodenhead 2007, Russian River Valley. Ripe raspberries, chamomile, violets & pennyroyal on the nose. Raspberries infuse the palate, along with the flavors of brandied cherries, rhubarb pie and damp earth. The finish lingers, with slightly tart notes of pomegranates & stone fruits. Hirsch M 2007, Sonoma Coast. Exotic spice top note, with layers of leather, cedar, earth, loganberry and raspberry. Balletto 2006, Russian River A beautiful medium garnet red with aromas of juicy red berries, mulberries, black pepper & cream. Woodenhead 2007 Guido Venturi This dark ruby Zin has a classic nose of sage, violets and dark plums. On the palate, the flavors of bing cherries, plums and currants dominate, leading to a lingering finish that is framed in finely grained, slightly peppery tannins and new leather. $46 bottle

Syrah & Blends

Woodenhead 2007 Redwood Red This blend, from 70-year-old vines, consists primarily of Zinfandel, Carignane and Barbera. This is a very sophisticated, dark garnet wine with an inviting nose of cherry blossoms, blackberry pie, dark stone fruits and fresh mushrooms. Licorice-infused dark fruit flavors wrap around the tongue, unwinding on the dry, chalky finish with notes of cherry tart that cleanse the palate. $26 bottle

Balletto 2006 Syrah Russian River Valley Dark purple, almost black in color, this wine shows dark blackberry, forest floor and light char aromas with a hint of black pepper and beef carpaccio. In the mouth, it has a perfect viscosity that balances and smoothes the tannins and astringency inherent in the Syrah grape. $30 bottle
